Anson Potter is an example of untiring industry, a pioneer of Hounsfield, and a present citizen of most honorable standing. Anson Potter has demonstrated qualities of high order and to acquire superiority in a chosen calling has put forth unremitted exertions. He was the second child in the family of John and Lydia (Holloway) Potter and was born in North Brookfield, Massachusetts, March 29, 1803. Azariah Walton was born in Chesterfield, New Hampshire, August 20, 1781. His family were of English extraction. But little, however, is known of its history previous to the birth of our subject. Like most of the youth of that day, his opportunities for education were extremely limited, and his knowledge was obtained from the bitter school of experience. He early evinced in decided taste for mechanics, learned the trade of a blacksmith, and became an expert machinist.
